Last Sunday’s Super Bowl XLIII featured some of the funniest, and tedious, commercials to date. Hard to believe companies paid millions for 30 seconds and pumped out a lot of drivel. One of the most disappointing was the Bob Dylan Pepsi “Refresh” ad. Ok, we get it – nothing has really changed over the decades. We can still be a care free, fun loving society like it’s 1965 and we all live in Southern California. Except for that whole war going on half way across the world…oh and our recession. Hmm…maybe things haven’t changed that much.

It was just so darn disappointing to see Bob Dylan, an artist who has kept most of his integrity through almost 5 decades of music, shill out to a soda, with Will.I.Am to back him up. It’s also a bit obnoxious to see Pepsi’s new logo:

which, as Jon Stewart pointed out, looks like the Obama Hope Campaign symbol:

But it seems as though someone made out like a bandit after Pepsi’s ad – a 2009 Nissan Cube was featured for about 2 seconds, and according to Nissan (via Jalopnik) not a dime was spent by the car company in order to have their boxy future van in the spot. Pepsi just figured it was a good fit.

In order to combat this advertising trade, Coke will release a new spot featuring a group of friends driving through Mexico City in a Chevy Nova, which transforms into a Kia Spectra. Damn, now I’m thirsty.
