Nissan unveiled their tiny car, Micra DIG-S, ahead of its scheduled 2011 Geneva Motor Show debut.

According to source WCF: Designed for maximum efficiency, the DIG-S uses a supercharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with direct injection and start / stop technology. It produces 97 hp and 105 lb-ft of torque, which enables the car to have a combined fuel consumption rating of 57.4 mpg US and CO2 emissions of 95 g/km.

Pierre Loing, Nissan’s Vice President of Product Strategy and Planning, added: “It is clear that our new DIG-S engine offers the best solution for small cars like Micra. With instant throttle response, its performance and strong economy are a more than a match for any diesel engine with similar power outputs, but its emissions performance is much better.”

Micra will hit foreign dealerships in late 2011, but will this small car ever come to the United States? So far, there is no word from the Japanese auto maker on that point.

Nissan showed off teaser images (well, actually just one image) featuring its Townpod Electric Vehicle concept. We are going to guess this car will eventually appear similar to an Anime character, too bad it probably won’t be Spike Spiegel…probably more like Hello Kitty.

Nissan’s tiny EV was teased prior to a Paris Motor Show unveiling. Details about the car are limited, but the Japanese auto maker has stated Townpod will combine “eye-catching design with a spacious and practical interior.”

Yes…this is the only image they’ve released so far.

With the goal of attracting creative and tech-savvy entrepreneurs, Townpod concept will usher in a “new-era of flexible, stylish vehicles that will bring electric-vehicle mobility to the masses.” Along with this new mini-Nissan, the company will also display their updated Juke, Micra and Leaf vehicles in Paris. Many of these are run on electric-only powerplants, helping Nissan secure a place as one of the world’s top green car producers.
