It’s barely 2010 and already Nissan is on the ball with the reveal of plans to make a 2013 Nissan GT-R Concept, and eventually a production model. Guess you can’t convince anyone that Nissan is lazy, as the company is gearing up to combine an updated GT-R Concept design (pictured below) along with Infiniti’s Hybrid electric powertrain, taken from their Essence model. Sharing does equal caring, after all.

According to sources at Inside Line: 2013’s GT-R would use the current 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 plus the battery powered electric drive powertrain in the 2009 Infiniti Essence Concept. We hope the new version can stay up to par with current Nissan GT-R capabilities, including 485 horse power and a 25 – 30 MPG rating in the States. One change we could all do with – try keeping it under $100,000 this time – just sayin – some of us working stiffs would like a ride in a GT-R too.

Ohio-based tuners Switzer Performance Innovation have taken the already fast as heck 2009 Nissan GT-R and given it an over-800 horse power upgrade! “How much will it make on race gas? That was the first question, right out of the box,” explains Tym Switzer, head of the tuner company. “I explained that we’d developed the “P” packages as daily-use products that wouldn’t force you to buy race gas or excessively strain the drive line. We wanted to make an 800 hp car that was a true daily driver, and we accomplished that … but someone always wants more. We’ve bent a bit to the demands of those customers that are using their GTRs primarily as track day cars, and developed a new ‘R’ package specifically for them.”

“We’re seeing consistent dyno results in excess of 740 all-wheel-horsepower and 715 lb-ft, pull after pull. Most everyone seems to agree that the GTR has about a 15% drive line loss. Based on that, this kit is making well over 850 hp and 820 lb-ft at the crank.”

Nissan has dropped the specs for its 2010 GT-R and both performance and speed have been given a significant from last year’s model. Unfortunately, Godzilla may be suffering from a financial crisis, or at least potential owners of this foreign hell raiser will take notice, that higher specs equals higher price tags.

2010’s Nissan GT-R comes with an increase in horsepower for their 3.8 liter twin-turbo V6, propelling the GT-R to 485 horse power, over the 480 of 2009’s model. GT-R’s new Transmission Control Module helps smooth out the gear shifting, while suspension has been re-tuned with new shocks and different spring and damper rates. New 20-inch RAYS forged aluminum alloy wheels now come in a darker, near-black finish.

So, how much will a 2010 GT-R put you back? Somewhere in the range of $80,000 to $84,000. Ouch. The new 2010 GT-R will be available from selected Nissan dealers. For a list of the roughly 700 certified dealers, visit Nissanusa.com, and read full details on specs and pricing in the Nissan press release below.

March may be the month known for madness, lions and lambs, but at Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA), the biggest roar is coming from the early introduction of the new 2010 Nissan GT-R supercar, including a number of important enhancements. Specifically, five additional horsepower, a revised suspension, updated wheel finishes and standard front seat- and roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags.

First introduced in the United States in July 2008, the Nissan GT-R earned near universal acclaim, including being named Motor Trend “2009 Car of the Year,” Automobile magazine’s 2009 “Automobile of the Year”, and winning Kelly Blue Book’s “2009 Best Resale Value Award.”

For 2010, the horsepower rating of the GT-R’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine has increased to 485 hp (from 480 hp) and the car’s high-performance, 6-speed, dual-clutch transmission receives new Transmission Control Module (TCM) programming designed to optimize clutch engagement for improved drivability, and improve vehicle acceleration with the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) on (activated). In addition, the braking system has been updated with more rigid brake lines for improved durability, and the brake calipers now carry both the Brembo and Nissan logos. Finally, the GT-R’s state-of-the-art suspension has been retuned with redesigned Bilsteinâ shocks with a new valve body design and revised spring and damper rates.

The base GT-R model is now equipped with slightly darker, high-luster, smoke finish for the 20-inch RAYS forged aluminum-alloy wheels, while a new “near-black” metallic wheel finish is standard on the Premium model. For 2010, one new color – Pearl White – is offered, while the Super Silver exterior color has been enhanced to include a polished front bumper.

For 2010, the Nissan GT-R will again be offered in two models – GT-R and GT-R Premium. All 2010 Nissan GT-Rs are equipped with a standard 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 backed by an advanced paddle-shifted, dual clutch rear transmission and a world’s first independent rear transaxle ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive system. The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP)* is $80,790 for the GT-R, and $83,040 for the GT-R Premium model. Destination & Handling (D&H) is $1,000.

Two options and two accessories are available for the 2010 GT-R: The Cold Weather Package (no charge); Special Super Silver Paint ($3,000); iPodâ Converter ($400); and carpeted GT-R floor mats ($280). Complete pricing information is available on the attached sheet.

The 2010 GT-R will be available only through officially certified Nissan retailers that have met a number of strict sales, service and facility commitments, including dedicating a master technician to GT-R service, on March 21, 2009. A complete listing of the nearly 700 GT-R Certified Nissan dealers is available to consumers on NissanUSA.com.

As if the Nissan GT-R wasn’t ferocious enough on its own, German tuners Cobra N+ are taking it to the limit with their super-sized GT-R upgrades. Cobra is adding a 550 horsepower engine with maximum torque hitting upwards of 680Nm. Just how fast of a get up and go will this over-charged Nissan GT-R have? An Estimated 0 – 100 km/h (approx 60 mph) in 3.5 seconds.

Cobra N+ states their Nissan enhancement has a top speed of 320 km/h. They want to up the ante with a GT-R producing 620 horsepower with 800Nm of torque. And of course there’s a simple yet catchy marketing name for all this: Race Performance. Check out all the detail in an official press release below.

The COBRA N+ Tuning Concept for the New Nissan GT-R

Rarely has a new car attracted this much attention a full year before its official market launch. The Nissan GT-R reaches for the stars on the wings of a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 engine with 485 hp / 356.9 kW and permanent four-wheel drive. The development of an extensive tuning program at COBRA N+, the division of Cobra Technology & Lifestyle (Alleestrasse 15-19, D-33818 Leopoldshöhe, Germany, phone +49 / (0) 52 02 / 99 92 60, fax +49 / (0) 52 02 / 99 92 50, Internet www.cobra-sor.com) that exclusively deals with the customization and tuning of Nissan automobiles, is running at full steam.

Power can only be substituted with more power. The COBRA N+ engineers are already hard at work developing engine tuning for the turbocharged engine. The first tuning stage is projected to deliver 550 hp / 404.8 kW, with an increase in torque to 680 Nm. To achieve this goal the engine electronics are reprogrammed, boost pressure is increased by 0.15 bar and the air intake is modified with sport air filters. Also under development is a free-flow COBRA N+ stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with metal catalysts.

Thus powered the Nissan GT-R from COBRA N+ will sprint to 100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds, on its way to a top speed of some 320 km/h. Plans exist for a COBRA N+ RACE PERFORMANCE engine version with 620 hp / 456.3 kW and a peak torque of approximately 800 Nm.

COBRA N+ also adds further sporty character to suspension, wheels and brakes of the new top-of-the-line model from the Japanese carmaker. Three-piece, extremely lightweight 21-inch COBRA N+ light-alloy wheels are slated to fill out the space beneath the wheel arches perfectly. They’ll also create the necessary space for COBRA N+ eight-piston brake calipers and 405-mm brake discs on the front axle. A COBRA N+ coil-over suspension gives the sports car even better handling. It features a multitude of selectable settings for ride height and damper rates.

The COBRA N+ tuning concept for the GT-R also includes a sporty designer suit. The front of the two-door car receives added character with a new COBRA N+ front apron with large air dams. The aerodynamic-enhancement part also reduces lift on the front axle and improves cooling-air supply of radiators and front brakes. COBRA N+ rocker panels ensure optimal air flow between front and rear wheel arches. The rear is upgraded with a new COBRA N+ rear apron with integrated diffuser, and a larger COBRA N+ rear airfoil. The COBRA N+ Speed and Stripes decal kit accentuates the striking lines of the sportscar.

For customizing the interior COBRA N+ offers two different options. Nissan GT-R owners can choose from a luxurious COBRA N+ interior with specially sewn upholstery for seats and doors, made from a high-quality combination of leather and Alcantara, and a COBRA N+ racing cockpit with ultra-light carbon-fiber racing seats, six-point seatbelts and roll cage.

The COBRA N+ tuning program for the Nissan GT-R will be available for the car’s European market launch in the spring of 2009.

The Nissan GT-R has been a jewel in Nissan’s sports car crown since it’s 2007 premier in Japan. Street kings love the high powered, fast drifting Tokyo vehicle, with its twin turbo 3.8 liter V6 engine, along with your standard GR6 dual-clutch six-speed transmission. Come on, would you want to go any other way than a 6-speed? GT-R’s top speed of 192 mph can be reached after a zero-to-sixty launch of 3.5 seconds. The GT-R also lapped Nurburgring’s Nordschleife track in 7 min 35 sec, giving it a better time than a Mercedes SLR McLaren (7 min 40 sec) Porsche 911 Turbo (7 min 40 sec) and Corvette Z06 (7 min 42 sec) – pretty good company for a Nissan.

2009’s GT-R body construction combines steel, carbon fiber and aluminum, with a low coefficient drag of 0.27. Expect to be thrilled when a GT-R comes to (select) Nissan dealerships in the United States, with prices ranging from $69,850 – $71,900 depending on package and engine type.

There’s also The GT-R 570 horse power upgrade available. Your standard GT-R is rated at 480 HP, an upgrade is supposed to push you past the 550 limit. But is this amount of horse power on a Nissan fact? One Hong Kong race shop hooked a GT-R up to some HP readers and decided to go for a drive, and ended up with 559 HP!
