We checked out both editor and user submitted reviews of the Nissan Cube from our blog, as well as from top automotive resources online (including Kicking Tires, AutoBlog and tech geek haven CNET). Some are impressed, as others are baffled how Nissan ever got away with The Cube.

A quote from CNET’s Review site includes on editor stating:
“”Finally, people hauler thats well built fun and cool.” While a CNET User disagreed: “Bad enough Scion created a lunchbox on wheels, Kia hadta follow the same ‘lunchbox’ with the Soul, and behind its heels, Nissan’s Lunchbox Cube?!?! Talk about being ‘boxed’ in your car…”

Similar vibes can be seen on Kicking Tires’ Blog, where one user said “I wouldn’t mind the rear door since I park mostly in parking lots and very seldom have to parallel park. I found the ride to comfortable and the engine was peppy despite it’s small size. Very roomy inside.” – And another complained Cube’s rear-loading street-side hatch wasn’t properly placed: “how often do you actually load from the sidewalk on that side?!?!? we drive on the RIGHT side of the road… might want to double check which side you drive on ;) ”

Finally, the two top user comments on AutoBlog’s review of Nissan Cube sum it all up:
“i’m glad Nissan brought this over. Another notch in Nissan’s belt.” Vs. “I like “different”, but this is just ugly. Nothing cool about it, IMO–”

According to a recent report, Nissan will unveil a prototype of their new global electric vehicle when the company officially opens their new headquarters in Yokohama, Japan on August 2.

Nissan has utilized their cute, new and fun-to-drive Nissan Cube, as the guinea pig for their electric car. It will be powered by an advanced lithium-ion battery, but no real specs have surfaced yet on the vehicle. Production is scheduled for this winter with 50,000 units. Look for the production model at 2009’s Tokyo Motor Show in October.

If all goes well, United Kingdom drivers can expect The Cube later that year. Only time will tell if the adorable box-car will make it this side of the Pacific. Expect a redesign, including Nissan Versa’s 1.8-liter engine under the hood. Generation-Y has already taken a huge interest in this vehicle, a reaction similar to designs by Scion a few years back.
